Bloktoberfest would not be possible without our amazing staff of volunteers! Every year, Bloktoberfest draws upon a core of dedicated volunteers to staff the festival, adding new volunteers every year. For many volunteers, this is their introduction to helping their local community, and Bloktoberfest is proud to connect these individuals to improve their local community and serve the businesses and residents they call neighbors. Below is a general overview of what to expect when volunteering for Bloktoberfest:

Volunteers are expected to attend a (1) hour training ahead of the festival and serve a minimum of (4) hours. In exchange, volunteers receive a FREE Bloktoberfest t-shirt and BEER (responsibly!) on the day of the festival!

Volunteers can also register with their friends as a team! If you are planning on working as a part of a team, however, please consult with your group on a team name and your available shift preferences BEFORE registering. If you and your team members’ availabilities and/or team name do not match up, you all run the risk of not being paired up accordingly!

Dates for the aforementioned volunteer training sessions are as follows. By popular request, we are adding additional virtual training options, and the in-person trainings will be much more centrally located and accessible by public transportation!

Shift Times and Tasks

Volunteers can expect to do anything from flyering to setting up to selling tickets to pouring beer for their shift. To learn more about which opportunities would suit you best, click here! Volunteers can also expect to serve their shifts in the following time blocks:

  • Pre-festival logistics: Flexible timing

  • Day of Setup Shift: 7am-11am

  • Day of Festival Shift #1: 11am-3pm

  • Day of Festival Shift #2: 2pm-6pm

  • Day of Festival Shift #3: 5pm-9pm

After registering, volunteers (excluding pre-festival logistics volunteers) can expect to be added to a Google Groups mailing list for periodic communications with volunteer updates. Aside from training date announcements, volunteer assignments and last minute logistics, volunteers can expect only essential communications from Bloktoberfest.

There are a lot of moving parts leading up to the festival. However, day of volunteers (i.e. excluding pre-festival logistics volunteers) can expect to receive their volunteer shift assignments by Monday, September 23rd, 2019. Volunteers can expect to be assigned ONLY a time shift ahead of the festival and exact shift responsibilities at the time of check in the day of the festival.

Day Of Logistics

Volunteers should notify Bloktoberfest if they can no longer serve their shift as soon as possible!

Volunteers should be on time to check in for their volunteer shift regardless of the weather. Bloktoberfest is a RAIN OR SHINE event.

Volunteers must present their ID at volunteer check-in in order to volunteer. Bloktoberfest has a 100% ID’ing policy, no exceptions.

If volunteering as a team, volunteers should check-in together as a team. If teams do not check in together, there is no guarantee that you all be paired together.

Volunteers should pack light for their volunteer shift, as Bloktoberfest does not provide any storage space for personal items, nor is Bloktoberfest responsible for any damaged or lost personal items.
